Miracle on 7th Street is a collection of three bars that go all out to decorate for the holiday season. Thousands of strings of lights, ornaments, ropes of garland, and other decorations transform these bars into a magical winter wonderland that would melt even the Grinch’s heart.
The contagious holiday spirit that is Miracle on 7th Street has expanded through the years and now includes five rooms, each with their own theme. Each space ranges from more traditional themes that will remind you of an extreme version of your childhood Christmases to modern twists on the holiday. Gingerbread, nutcrackers, toy trains, garland, and ornaments are all fair game. Some of the non-traditional themes have included Icelandic narwhals, Beyoncé (“Sleigh All Day”), and Chinese Food and a Movie. Themed cocktails are designed each year to compliment the rooms using holiday ingredients like cinnamon and cookie dough and are usually served in holiday mugs and glasses. The 2019 holiday scenes to look forward to are a room dedicated to the World Series champions, the Washington Nationals, a “Chinese and a movie” Hanukkah room, and a geodesic igloo.
Miracle on 7th Street is one of the most popular pop-up bars in DC. Long lines form outside with hundreds of people waiting to get in, and the bar gets quite busy throughout the night. For adventurers trying to avoid the crowds, I recommend getting in line an hour before the bar opens when the line starts forming or going on a Sunday when the bar is less busy.
DC locals may be experiencing pop-up bar fatigue, but Miracle on 7th Street is a unique experience that transcends its function as a bar. As someone who adores Christmas and can never get enough holiday cheer, walking into Miracle on 7th Street is like my best holiday dream come to life. Yes, it can get extremely crowded; yes, the cocktails are pricey; and yes, it’s totally worth it to visit at least once this holiday season.
